Dave Moore: He isn't a Kerouac scholar or biographer but seems to know the most about Kerouac. I mentioned being friends with Tommy Machado III, Mary Carney's great-grandson, in a Facebook chatroom. Dave sent me a copy of the Carney family tree and told me in 2019 what was in Steve Turner's book, Angelheaded Hipster (1996): Mary Carney told her daughter Judy that Jack was her father.
Gerald Nicosia: I contacted Gerry in April 2021 and he told me Father Spike brought him to Mary Carney’s house to confirm Judy was not Jack’s daughter in 1977 and 1988 but she never let him in the door. He knew Judy by her married name because people from Lowell knew Tom Machado’s wife was saying Jack’s her dad, he’d even say it at Nicky’s Bar which the Sampas’ hated.
Steve Turner: Steve came to Lowell, heard about Judy and conducted 3 phone interviews. He included her story in Angleheaded Hipster. 2020 he was kind enough to send me some interview notes from 1995. Judy told him Jack used to visit Mary while she was pregnant, and he wanted her to name their baby Christine. Also, John Sampas refused to help her.
Dennis McNally: Dennis came to Lowell to celebrate Jack's 100th birthday and during a discussion with Holly-George Warren, she asked Jim Sampas to see Jack’s medical records.
Brad Parker: In Aug. 2022, Brad told me he met with Judy years ago and they've had coffee to discuss "the dad question" and DNA evidence, exchanged emails and tried to help her. Now believes Mary had sex with a soldier that was a stranger and she didn’t know the name of her first child’s father. I think that’s insane.
Paul Maher, Jr.: According to Maher in The Definitive Biography, Judy cannot be Jack's child because he never had sex with Mary.
Charles Jarvis: In Visions of Kerouac, he's not sure of the true identity of Maggie Cassidy. which even in 1974, that statement seems ridiculous and not possibly true.
Officially Judy publicly denies being Jack's daughter, but I think it's because she enjoys living in peace or she's afraid.
